What’s new

• Saucery Pass, monthly or yearly, on the App Store, Google Play or by card on the web. One thing to buy, and it is the same thing everywhere.
• Every new family gets a 7-day trial, no card, the whole app.
• Prices in your own currency. The paywall in each app reads live pricing from the server, so what you see is what your store will charge, and a price never needs an app update to be corrected.
• The Saucery stays free if you want it to be: twenty recipes, the week’s plan, the shopping list, cook mode and the whole family. You just do the importing and the asking yourself.

• Link a second way in. Add Apple, Google or a password to the account you already have, and sign in with whichever is nearest.
• Two accounts, one person, fixed. If you signed up once with Apple and once with Google, linking them merges the two rather than leaving your recipes split across both.

• The Saucery’s API, documented at /developers. Every endpoint, its fields and what they mean, for anyone wiring the app into something else with an API key.

The whole thing was renamed, redrawn and rebuilt around one idea: a letterpress cookbook on parchment, where colour is the reward for choosing a recipe rather than the wallpaper.

• A new name and a new mark. SousChef is now The Saucery, with the same account, the same recipes and the same family.
• Whisp replaces Sous. The assistant is a wisp of steam rather than a cartoon chef: it answers on a ruled note pinned to the page, and steam rises off it while it thinks.
• Your recipes are the colour. The app is drawn in one forest ink on parchment, and each recipe rests in its own watercolour.
• Cook Mode is printed the other way round. The same page in reverse, dark and readable across the kitchen, and it stays that way whatever your phone’s theme is doing.
• A dark rendition on iPhone and Android for the rest of the app, for anyone who keeps their phone dark.
• The website, the Help Centre and every email were redrawn to match.

• Share a recipe and put your phone away. Imports from the share sheet are handed to the server and finish in the background, however long the page is.
• Terms of Use published, alongside the privacy policy.

• Sign in with a password, a one-time code, or a magic link, whichever suits.
• Forgotten passwords can be reset without asking anyone.
• Cook from the web. The browser version got the full recipe view and a step-by-step cook screen, matching the phone.
• Add it to your home screen. The web app installs like an app on any device.

The list stopped being a stack of weeks.

• A single rolling list. Everything you need is in one place, and things you add go where you’d expect rather than into next week.
• Real names, sensible order. "Onion" is one line even when three recipes call for it differently, with each recipe’s "finely diced" or "halved" underneath.
• Your staples merge in instead of arriving as duplicates.

• Search puts title matches first, so the recipe you typed the name of is the first one you see.
• Filter by ingredient, and by more than one tag at once.
• Steps know their ingredients. A step that says "add the butter" links to the butter in the list, with the amount, so you’re not scrolling up mid-cook.

• Saucery Pass arrives, on the App Store, Google Play, or by card.
• A free trial for every new family, with no card and nothing to cancel.
• Your subscription follows you. Buy on the phone, and the web knows; the app checks with the store rather than taking your word or ours.

• A privacy policy in plain language, and account deletion in one place: your account and everything in it, gone, without emailing anyone.

• The Saucery in a browser. A read-only web version for the devices that can’t run the app, so a recipe link opens anywhere.
• Invitations you can accept from a link, with the role already set.
• Photos in the house style. A photo you take of a finished dish can be redrawn as the app’s own watercolour.
• API keys. Mint a key and read your own meal plan from elsewhere: Home Assistant, a dashboard, whatever you run.

• The Android app, feature-complete against the iPhone one from its first build, sharing the same account, cookbook and plan.
• Sign in with Google, alongside Apple and email.

• The Lab. Badges you earn by actually cooking, a nudge to eat something other than the same six dinners.

• Grocery price tracking, New Zealand-wide. The Saucery follows Woolworths NZ prices, remembers what things normally cost, and tells you when a special is actually a special.
• What your week costs. Meal plans and shopping lists show prices and what you’re saving.
• A recipe feed. The home screen suggests dinners with something on special in them, shuffled daily so it isn’t the same five every night.
• Comments on recipes, so the family can say what worked.
• Staple groups and excluded ingredients: the things you always have, and the things nobody in the house will eat.
• A Help Centre, searchable, and a proper website.

The Saucery opens as a cookbook that plans your week and writes the shopping list for you.

• Every recipe, from anywhere. Paste a link, photograph a page, forward a screenshot, or type it out, and it comes back as a proper recipe with ingredients, steps and timings.
• A week you can plan. Drag dinners onto days, or ask for a week’s worth and adjust.
• A shopping list that writes itself from the plan, scaled to how many you’re feeding, with your staples added.
• Whisp, in the kitchen. Ask for something with what’s in the fridge, scale a recipe, or get a hand mid-cook.
• Your family, together. One cookbook, one plan, one list, live on everyone’s phone at once.
• A picture for every recipe, drawn by the app when you don’t have one.
