Terms of Use

These terms are the agreement between you and Molehill Creations (“Molehill”, “we”, “us”), based in Wellington, New Zealand, covering your use of the The Saucery apps and website (together, “The Saucery”). By creating an account or using The Saucery, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

How we handle your data is covered separately in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

Who can use The Saucery

You must be at least 16 years old, and able to enter into a binding contract, to hold an account with The Saucery. It is designed for adults managing a household. You're responsible for everything that happens under your account, including keeping your sign-in details secure. Tell us at hello@thesaucery.nz if you think someone else has access to your account.

Families and shared content

The Saucery is built around a shared family. When you join or invite someone to a family, recipes, meal plans, shopping lists, staples, comments and cooking history in that family are visible to and editable by other members according to their role (admin, editor or viewer). Only invite people you're happy to share that content with. Family admins can add and remove members and manage the family's subscription on the family's behalf.

Saucery Pass subscription

What it costs

The Saucery is free to start. Every new family gets a 7-day free trial of Saucery Pass with everything unlocked and no payment details required. After that, the free tier keeps working (meal planning, shopping lists, family sharing and up to 20 recipes) and Saucery Pass unlocks unlimited recipes, chat with Whisp, smart cook mode, photo import, Fill My Week and grocery price lookup.

Saucery Pass is an auto-renewing subscription. In New Zealand it is NZ$4.99 per month or NZ$39.99 per year; prices in other countries are shown in your local currency on the purchase screen before you buy, and that displayed price is the one that applies. A Saucery Pass covers the whole family, not just the member who bought it.

Billing and auto-renewal

If you subscribe inside the iOS app, payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. If you subscribe inside the Android app, payment is charged to your Google Play account at confirmation of purchase. In both cases:

• The subscription renews automatically for the same period at the same price unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• You can manage or cancel the subscription at any time in your Apple Account settings or your Google Play subscription settings. Deleting the app on its own does not cancel a subscription.
• If you cancel, you keep Saucery Pass until the end of the period you've already paid for.

If you subscribe through our website instead, payment is processed by Stripe and the same auto-renewal applies; you can cancel from the billing portal linked in your account.

Free trial

The 7-day free trial is offered once per family and doesn't require payment details. It does not convert into a paid subscription by itself. When the trial ends you drop back to the free tier unless you choose to subscribe.

Refunds and price changes

Purchases made through the App Store or Google Play are handled by Apple and Google respectively, so refunds for those purchases are theirs to give, under their policies. We can't issue them. For website subscriptions, contact us at hello@thesaucery.nz. Nothing here limits rights you have under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act or equivalent consumer law where you live.

We may change the price of Saucery Pass. If we do, we'll tell you before it affects you, and any increase applies from your next renewal, so you can cancel before then if you don't want to continue.

The AI features

The Saucery uses artificial intelligence to import and enrich recipes, read photos of recipes, suggest meal plans, generate images and answer questions in chat. To do that, the content you submit (your message, recipe text or photo) is sent to our AI providers to generate a response: Anthropic for text and chat, and OpenAI for recipe pictures. See the Privacy Policy for detail.

AI output can be wrong. Recipes, substitutions, quantities, cooking times, nutritional comments and shopping suggestions are generated automatically and are not professional dietary, nutritional, medical or food-safety advice. In particular:

• Allergies and intolerances: never rely on The Saucery to tell you whether a dish is safe for someone with an allergy. Always check the actual ingredients and packaging yourself.
• Food safety: cooking times and temperatures should be verified against a trusted source; use your own judgement and a thermometer where it matters.
• Prices and specials: grocery prices are collected from public sources and may be out of date or wrong. The price at the checkout is the real one.

Use of the AI features is subject to fair-use limits so the service stays available to everyone. We may cap or throttle usage, and we log usage (such as token counts) to operate and bill the service.

Your content

The recipes, photos, notes and other content you add stay yours. You give us the licence we need to run the service: to store your content, show it to the members of your family, process it through our AI provider when you use an AI feature, and back it up. We don't sell your content and we don't use it for advertising.

You're responsible for having the right to upload what you upload. Don't add content that infringes someone else's copyright. Importing a recipe for your own household's use is fine; republishing a copyrighted cookbook is not.

Acceptable use

Please don't:

• Break the law, or use The Saucery to harass, abuse or harm anyone
• Upload malware, or content that is unlawful, hateful, or sexually explicit
• Try to break, overload, probe or reverse-engineer the service, or bypass limits, quotas or paywalls
• Scrape the service, or use the API in ways our API documentation doesn't allow
• Use the AI features to generate content that is harmful, deceptive, or unrelated to cooking and household food planning
• Resell or redistribute The Saucery, or share a Saucery Pass beyond your household

We may suspend or close accounts that breach these rules.

Availability and changes

We work to keep The Saucery running well, but we don't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may add, change or remove features. If we make a change that materially reduces what you've paid for, you can cancel and we'll sort out a fair outcome for the unused part of your subscription.

Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account, which removes your personal data as described in the Privacy Policy. Deleting your account does not automatically cancel a subscription bought through Apple or Google. Cancel that in the store's own subscription settings. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these terms, or if we stop offering the service, in which case we'll give reasonable notice where we can.

Liability

The Saucery is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Where you use The Saucery as a consumer, your statutory rights, including under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act, are not affected by anything in these terms. If you use The Saucery in a business, the Consumer Guarantees Act does not apply.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we make material changes we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, let you know in the app. Continuing to use The Saucery after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and the New Zealand courts have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.
