comments notes family delete 500 characters web

Comments are for your family: what worked, what you'd change, who asked for it again. Only people in your family see them. They don't appear on a recipe you share by link.

Leaving a comment

Open a recipe and scroll to Comments at the bottom. Type in Add a comment… and tap the send button.

The Comments section of a recipe, with notes from Anna, Ruby and Marcus Whitcombe and an Add a comment box underneath
Newest first. The × on your own comment deletes it.

Admins and editors can comment. Viewers can read the comments but don't get the box. See Set up your family for what each role can do.

How long a comment can be

A comment can be up to 500 characters. Once you're within 50 of the limit, the box counts down what's left, such as 32 left. Go past it and it says how far over you are, such as 12 over the 500 character limit, and the send button waits until it fits. Nothing you paste is cut off, so you can trim it yourself.

If a comment is still turned away, you're told why, such as "Comments are 500 characters at most."

Deleting a comment

Tap the × on a comment you wrote. You're asked Delete comment?: tap Delete to remove it, or Cancel to keep it. It can't be undone.

You can only delete your own comments. A family admin can't delete someone else's.

On the web

Signed in on the web, a recipe's page has the same Comments section, with your family's comments and the date of each. Admins and editors get an Add a comment box and Post comment. Comments can't be deleted on the web; use the app.
