The Recipes tab opens on your home screen. The top of it is always the week ahead. Under that come sections of recipes, which you can turn off, reorder and change the look of.

Tonight and Coming up

The home screen with Tonight's dinner, a sausage and kumara tray bake that Marcus is cooking, then Coming up with Nonna's Lasagne, Thai Green Chicken Curry and a lamb ragù
The home screen scrolled down to Coming up, then the Dinner Ideas carousel with a Thai green chicken curry on special at about $7.22 a serving
  • Tonight's dinner shows what's planned for tonight, with its picture and who's cooking. Tap it to open the recipe. Once it's marked as cooked, or if nothing is planned, a smaller Tonight line takes its place. With nothing planned it says Nothing planned tonight. and Plan something takes you to the meal plan.
  • Coming up is the six nights after tonight, one tile each with the day, the dinner and whoever's cooking it. A night with more than one meal says +1 more, and a cooked one says Cooked. Tap a tile to open its recipe. A night with nothing on it says Nothing planned: tap it to plan one.

This part can't be turned off or moved. To change what's on it, change the meal plan.

Your Cookbook

Your Cookbook is the way in to your whole book. It says how many recipes and chapters are in it, and opens the contents page, where every chapter is listed. It starts just under Coming up. You can move it, but it can't be taken off.

The sections

Under Coming up are sections of your recipes. Each one is a row of recipes you scroll sideways (a Carousel), a small engraved picture, two across (a Card), or a Pill in the Browse row that opens the list. Tap See all on a carousel to see every recipe in it.

The sections on offer:

Section What's in it
Dinner Ideas Your dinners: the Mains chapter, and recipes not yet filed.
Quick Dinners Dinners on the table in 30 minutes or less.
Favourites The recipes your family has hearted.
On Special Your recipes that cost less this week at your store.
Cheap Dinners Dinners under $5 a serving at your store, cheapest first.
Something Sweet Desserts, baking and treats.
Breakfast & Brunch Recipes tagged breakfast.
Cooked & Loved Your most-made recipes.
What's New Your latest additions.
Mine Recipes you added yourself.

There's also a section for each chapter, each tag and each cuisine in your recipes, such as Mains, Vegetarian, Kid friendly or Italian. Chapters and Contents are the quickest way round a big cookbook.

On Special and Cheap Dinners need Saucery Pass and a store chosen in Price Lookup. See Price tracking for choosing your store, and What a recipe costs for how a serving is costed.

A section you've chosen to show stays where you put it even when it's empty, so a Favourites strip doesn't vanish the day you have no favourites.

What you get before you arrange it

Until you change anything, the home screen picks for you from your recipes: Dinner Ideas first, then Mine once you've added a recipe of your own, then a few strips such as On Special and Favourites, then pills. A section only appears by default once it has a few recipes in it. The defaults follow your recipes as you add them.

Arranging it yourself

On iPhone: Settings, then Home Screen.

On Android: Settings, then Home screen.

Or scroll to the bottom of the home screen and tap Customise your home screen.

The Home Screen settings, listing Dinner Ideas, Mine, On Special, Cheap Dinners, What's New and Favourites as carousels, then Cooked & Loved, Kid friendly and Vegetarian as pills, each with a drag handle
Each section, how many recipes it has, and how it shows.
  • Your Cookbook says Always shown in place of a look to pick. Move it like any other.
  • Change how one shows: tap the word beside it (Carousel, Card or Pill) and pick another, or Take it off to remove it.
  • Move one: on iPhone, drag it by the handle on the right. On Android, use the up and down arrows.
  • Add one: tap Add a section and pick a section, tag or cuisine. It arrives as a pill.
  • Start again: Reset to the defaults.

Changes save as you make them. The arrangement is yours: everyone in the family can arrange their own home screen, and yours follows you to the web.

On the web: at the bottom of the Recipes page, Customise your home screen opens the same list. Tap Save arrangement when you're done.

With no signal

The home screen works offline. Your sections, their recipes, this week's meals and the order you set all stay as they were, and a small icon at the top says you're seeing saved data. Tapping a section, a card or See all shows its recipes from your phone. On Special is the one section that needs a connection, and says so.

You can arrange your home screen offline too: the change is kept on your phone and sent when you're back online. Reset to the defaults needs a connection.
